In December 2014, Capital Power completed the acquisition of 100 per cent of the Macho Springs Wind Project from Element Power US L.P.

The 50-megawatt (MW) Macho Springs wind project was completed in November 2011. The project is located on approximately 1,800 acres of private ranch land about 180 miles south of Albuquerque, or about 20 miles northeast of Deming in Luna County, New Mexico.

Macho Springs comprises 28 Vestas V100-1.8 megawatt wind turbines. Output from the project is 100% contracted through 2031, through a 20-year power purchase agreement with Tucson Electric Power.

Operations and maintenance of the facility is contracted through EDF Renewable Energy and Vestas. The wind project generates enough clean electricity for approximately 14,000 households.
