Expanding Ontario’s Renewable Power Generation Potential

On May 29, 2015, K2 Wind Ontario reached commercial operation.

One of Canada’s largest wind projects, the 270 megawatt (MW) facility is jointly owned by Capital Power, and a consortium composed of Axium Infrastructure, Alberta Teachers' Retirement Fund Board and Manulife Financial Corporation and Pattern Energy Group Inc., and is operated by Pattern.

K2 Wind has a Community Benefits Fund Agreement with the Township of Ashfield-Colborne-Wawanosh to deliver approximately $15 million in funding for community initiatives over the next 20 years, in addition to supporting local residents living near the facility through lease agreements and other benefits.

K2 Wind Partnership

On August 3, 2011 Capital Power LP (“Capital Power”), the legal entity that directly and indirectly holds substantially all of Capital Power Corporation’s (TSX: CPX) assets, and Samsung Renewable Energy Inc. (“Samsung”), and Pattern Renewable Holdings Canada ULC (“Pattern”) ”) entered into a limited partnership (“the partnership”) for the development, construction and operation of the 270 megawatt (MW) K2 Wind Power Project. On Aug. 9, 2016, a consortium composed of Axium Infrastructure, Alberta Teachers’ Retirement Fund Board and Manulife Financial Corporation completed the acquisition of Samsung Renewable Energy’s one-third interest in the K2 Wind Facility (K2).
