Island Generation


 Facility Information

  • Island Generation is a natural-gas-fired combined-cycle power generation facility. It utilizes an Alstom GT24B gas turbine and an Alstom steam turbine.

  • Fuel for the 275-megawatt (MW) facility is supplied by B.C. Hydro. 

  • Island Generation is fully contracted under a long-term tolling agreement with B.C. Hydro until April 2022.

  • Island Generation was the first addition to Capital Power’s fleet via acquisition since its Initial Public Offering (IPO) in July 2009.

  • Located on the eastern side of Vancouver Island in Campbell River, B.C., Island Generation is the single-largest power generation facility on Vancouver Island. It represents about one-third of the generation capacity on the island.
