The Whitla Wind Facility is a 298.8-megawatt (MW) wind power facility (developed in two phases) located approximately 10 kilometres south of Bow Island in the County of Forty Mile, Alberta. The first 201.6 MW phase of the Project was selected for a 20-year contract by the Alberta Electric System Operator (AESO) in the first round of its Renewable Electricity Program (REP). Construction of Phase 1 began in September 2018 and the project is expected to begin commercial operation in the fourth quarter of 2019.

Construction of New Frontier Wind, Capital Power’s second wind development project in the United States began in May 2018 and commercial operation is expected to begin in December 2018. The 99-megawatt facility is located on approximately 10,700 acres of privately-owned lands in McHenry County, North Dakota. New Frontier will use 29 Vestas V126-3.45 MW wind turbines.

Construction of our Cardinal Point Wind project is underway. The facility will operate under a 12-year fixed price hedge agreement with an investment grade U.S. financial institution for 85% of the facility’s output.
The 150-megawatt wind facility located in Illinois, is expected to begin commercial operations in March of 2020.
