The Capital Power Whitla Wind Facility is a proposed 298.8 megawatt (MW) wind power facility (developed in two phases) located approximately 45 kilometres southwest of Medicine Hat in the County of Forty Mile, Alberta. The first 201.6 MW phase of the Project was selected for a 20-year contract by the Alberta Electric System Operator (AESO) in the first round of its Renewable Electricity Program (REP). Capital Power announced on August 30, 2017 that development of New Frontier Wind is proceeding immediately with commercial operation expected to commence in December 2018.
The 99-megawatt facility is located on approximately 10,700 acres of privately-owned lands in McHenry County, North Dakota. New Frontier will use 29 Vestas V126-3.45 MW wind turbines. Learn more about the project.
