After working at York Energy Centre (YEC) as a contractor in 2018, Kate Parr set her sights on a career in the energy industry. The equipment, responsibility, and pride employees have in their work kept the 456-MW YEC facility on her radar until a position opened that she felt she could give her all in – she hasn’t stopped delivering since.
Splitting her time between operations and maintenance, Kate is involved in most aspects of the plant, including running the plant and dispatch management in the control room, overseeing contractors, and performing maintenance work as a licensed millwright. This versatility keeps her busy, which she prefers as someone who loves to be hands-on, interactive, and engaged with her work. When she isn’t ensuring YEC is always ready to provide essential backup generation to support the Ontario grid, she’s taking advantage of Capital Power’s employee programs to enhance her already impressive skillset and encouraging the next generation of tradespeople to consider the energy industry.
