Powering Change Through Football

There is something special about seeing a young person try a new sport, make a great play and realize what they’re capable of.

That spirit is at the heart of Powering Change Through Football, our partnership with the Canadian Football League (CFL). Now in its second year, the program brings flag football directly into Indigenous communities, connecting young people with CFL players and alumni through sport clinics focused on learning, teamwork and – most importantly – having fun.

This year, the program has grown to include four one-day clinics near our operating communities in Ontario and Alberta, with Six Nations of the Grand River, Ermineskin Cree Nation, Paul First Nation, and Piikani Nation, along with a new eight-week flag football program designed to expand access to the game and create more opportunities for ongoing skills development.

These moments reflect why youth is a priority focus of our community investment program. Sport can create spaces for young people to build confidence, connect with others, and discover what they can accomplish.

Continuing our journey of reconciliation

Powering Change Through Football is part of our broader commitment to Truth and Reconciliation. Alongside the youth programming, Capital Power returned as the Official Partner of the CFL’s Truth and Reconciliation Donation Program, matching up to $30,000 in sales from the CFL and New Era’s Truth and Reconciliation sideline collection in support of Indigenous Youth Roots.

Truth and Reconciliation goes beyond just a day. It’s what you do day in and day out with the communities that you’re partnering with.

– Ferio Pugliese, Chief Corporate Officer, Capital Power

This youth-led organization works with communities to provide programs, grants, and opportunities for Indigenous youth across Canada. Thanks to the generosity of CFL fans, we proudly matched the full $30,000 in 2025 and 2026.

We’re grateful to our community partners and the CFL for helping bring this vision to life. As this program continues, we look forward to seeing more young people get on the field, try something new, and make the game their own.
