Pauline McLean
As Senior Vice President, External Relations, Chief Legal Officer & Corporate Secretary, Pauline leads Capital Power’s legal, regulatory, corporate secretariat, external relations, and corporate, market and reliability compliance functions. She is a trusted advisor to the executive team and Board of Directors, guiding governance, enterprise risk, complex transactions, and strategic initiatives that support disciplined growth and operational resilience. Pauline helps the organization navigate fast-moving policy, stakeholder, and regulatory landscapes while maintaining a strong culture of integrity and compliance.
Prior to joining Capital Power, Pauline spent 14 years at the Alberta Electric System Operator (AESO), where she held progressively senior legal and commercial leadership roles during a period of significant market evolution and system transformation. She led cross‑functional, greenfield programs that connected policy objectives to bankable commercial frameworks, ranging from renewable electricity incentive initiatives to innovative approaches for procuring and financing major bulk transmission infrastructure. This experience deepened her expertise at the intersection of regulatory design, market structure, stakeholder engagement, and long‑term capital investment, capabilities she continues to apply in advancing reliable power solutions.
Earlier in her career, Pauline practiced corporate and commercial law, building a strong foundation in governance, commercial contracting, and complex deal support that complement her energy sector leadership. She holds a Bachelor of Science and a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Calgary and has earned respected governance credentials, including ICD.D and GPC.D. Pauline is committed to community and sector leadership and currently serves on the advisory board of Nature Conservancy Canada and the boards of the Canadian American Business Council and Electricity Canada bringing a thoughtful, outcomes‑focused perspective to reliable, affordable and sustainable development.
