Since the inception of Capital Power in 2009, we have developed a relationship with Edmonton Garrison, the largest military base in Western Canada. In that time, over $500,000 has been raised through community donations and Capital Power’s matched contributions to military charities.
Capital Power was proud to be the presenting sponsor of the Heroes Hockey Challenge which was held in Edmonton in 2017, and Yellow Ribbon Gala 2017, an annual event Both events provided support and awareness for the Military Family Resource Centre and the PPCLI Foundation. Nearly $50,000 was raised by these events to support soldiers and military families.
From 2011-2016, Capital Power proudly presented Armed Forces Appreciation Night (formerly Military Appreciation Night) at Edmonton Eskimos games and, together with Eskimos fans, helped raise $426,000 for military personnel, veterans and their families.
Each year of the partnership, Capital Power employees and their families, together with volunteers from Military charities, collected donations before an Eskimos game in exchange for limited edition “Support Our Troops” t-shirts. Capital Power matched donations from the fundraiser
Capital Power partnered with the Grey Cup Festival in 2010, the last time that the event was in Edmonton. In 2010, the Capital Power Zipline was a highlight of the Festival and riders donated $13,000 to Edmonton’s Military Family Resource Centre in exchange for a photo of their experience. Capital Power matched these donations resulting in $26,000 being contributed to the MFRC.
The Capital Power Zipline is returning as a featured activity at the 2018 Grey Cup Festival when it returns to Edmonton from November 21 to 24, 2018. Edmonton is Capital Power's hometown and we are proud to support initiatives and events that bring positive profile to our great city.
