This site contains information pertaining to receiving and accepting your offer letter, as well as information related to onboarding activities that must be completed once you are cleared for hire. Receiving and Accepting your Offer
Step 1 – Review Benefit Information
1.1 For a comprehensive look at Capital Power’s benefit plans, please take time to review Capital Power’s Benefits Handbook. Additional information pertaining to benefits can be found in the “Completing your Onboarding Activities” section of this site. Please review before signing your offer.
Step 2 – Identification Verification
2.1 Immediately after signing your offer on our Careers Site, you will be asked to complete tasks to verify your identity. You’ll find these tasks when you log in to your Candidate Home account from our Careers Site. This information is required for background checks and/or payroll. The tasks will ask you to provide:
- Date of Birth
- Copy of a photo ID
- Copy of your social insurance card – In the absence of a SIN card, we will only accept Proof of Income Statement from the Canadian Revenue Agency. Please note that we require all numbers to be visible when uploading these details.
- If needed you can visit the CRA’s My Account website to retrieve your SIN Info
- o If your SIN starts with a 9, please include a copy of your work permit/visa as part of your attachment
Step 3 – Background Checks and Pre-Employment Testing
3.1 After signing and submitting your offer and identification verification information, you will receive an email from Sterling Backcheck requesting you to complete an online form for your background check. Background checks may include the following depending on your role:
- Criminal Record Check
- Education Verification
- Credential Verification
- Credit Check
- References
3.2 If you are entering a safety sensitive position, you will be required to undergo pre-employment medical related testing based off your job requirements. Information related to your testing will be contained in your offer letter if applicable. After signing and submitting your offer and identification verification information you will receive details on how to book your pre-employment testing.
Completing your Onboarding Activities (Post Cleared for Hire)
Congratulations and welcome to the Capital Power team! To ensure we are fully ready for your arrival, please complete and/or review the tasks below by the date specified in your Cleared for Hire email. If you are unable to complete this entire process, there will be a delay in your pay and benefits enrollment.
Step 1 – Payroll and Tax Information
1.1 Enter your direct deposit information, including uploading a void cheque, directly into Workday.
1.2 Your TD-1 information will be collected in Workday. Should you require TD-1 Worksheets for your personal use, please visit the CRA’s TD-1 Worksheet site.
Step 2 – Identification Badge
2.1 Email a photo to Security for your Employee ID Badge – Please provide a photo with the following specifications:
Step 3 – Workday Onboarding Activities
3.1 One week prior to your start date with Capital Power, you will be able to log into our Human Resources Information Systems, Workday. Here you can action on completing all your onboarding activities prior to your first day. If the onboarding activities aren’t completed by the end of your first week, you may experience a delay in your pay and benefits enrollment.
Step 4 – Review and Acknowledge the following Forms
4.1 Please review the following five Capital Power policies and documents. In Workday, during your onboarding tasks, acknowledge that you have read and understood the policies and documents.

- Our Generosity matched giving program recognizes your charitable community donations by providing an unlimited match when you donate to a registered North American charity. Access your match any time for any amount all year. All eligible donations must be to registered charities in North America (i.e. no unregistered associations or GoFundMe). Visit the Intranet to apply for your match.
- Paid Volunteer Time:
- Permanent employees are eligible for up to 8 hours of paid volunteer time each calendar year for volunteering in the community. Employees can access this time to volunteer during regular working hours. For facility employees requiring shift coverage, your Paid Volunteer Time can be accessed on your own time. Time is coded in Workday. Visit our Intranet page to found out more details.
- After Hours Personal Development Program:
- Permanent employees are able to participate in our After-Hours Personal Development Program, which can be used to fund a wide variety of learning and development opportunities. Here are a few highlights of our program:
- Funding is available for each program year
- Full-time Employees – up to $3,000 (Canadian currency)
- Part-time employees – up to $1,500 (Canadian currency)
- Eligible Expenses are: course fees, materials (i.e., books), study aids, tests.
- Learning must be at an accredited post-secondary institution or through a professional association.
- These courses are to be completed during your personal time.
- Employee must have completed and passed the course prior to requesting reimbursement.
Step 5 – Benefits Enrollment
5.1 Defined Contribution Pension Plan
You will be automatically enrolled into Sun Life Financials’ Defined Contribution Pension Plan. Within approximately two weeks of your start date, you will receive your plan welcome letter in the mail, which will include your login information for MySunLife where you will be able to make your investment selections. For questions or information regarding investment options or financial advice, please review the “My Money Guide: Savings Plan and Pension Information” in the Savings Plan section below or contact a Sun Life Licensed Financial Service Consultant at 1-866-896-3664 any business day between 8:00 am – 6:00 pm ET.
5.2 Savings Plan
Once you receive your welcome letter from Sun Life Financial, you will have the opportunity to enroll in the Capital Power Savings Plan by logging in to MySunLife. To understand more about the savings plan or to get assistance enrolling, please review the “My Money Guide: Savings Plan and Pension Information” or contact a Sun Life Licensed Financial Service Consultant at 1-866-292-3364 any business day between 8 am – 6 pm ET.

5.3 Benefits Information
As a permanent employee, please take some time to review the following documents regarding your benefits.
Please note that within two weeks of your hire date, you will receive an e-mail from the “Capital Power Flex Benefits Support Team” with all of the information required to complete your personal benefit enrolment.”
