Expanding Ontario’s Renewable Power Generation Potential

On August 3rd, 2011 Capital Power LP (“Capital Power”), the legal entity that directly and indirectly holds substantially all of Capital Power Corporation’s (TSX: CPX) assets, and Samsung Renewable Energy Inc. (“Samsung”), and Pattern Renewable Holdings Canada ULC (“Pattern”) ”) announced that they have entered into a limited partnership (“the partnership”) for the development, construction and operation of a 270 megawatt (MW) wind power project to be known as K2 Wind Ontario (“K2” or “the project”).

A website dedicated to the project has been developed by the partnership and can be found at www.k2wind.ca.

Formerly referred to as the Kingsbridge II Wind Power Project (“Kingsbridge II”), K2 will continue to be developed in the Township of Ashfield-Colborne-Wawanosh (“ACW”) in southwestern Ontario.

Capital Power will continue to lead the provincial Renewable Energy Approval (REA) process for the project. Please see the news release for more information.

The countryside of ACW represents one of Ontario’s best areas for wind power generation. The partnership plans to build upon the success of Capital Power’s existing 40MW Kingsbridge I Wind Power Project which is also located in ACW. Since 2006, Kingsbridge I delivered enough emission free electricity to meet the annual needs of 12,500 Ontario homes (annual average). In 2007 and 2008, Kingsbridge I had the highest capacity rating of any wind power generation site in Ontario.

Working with the Community

Looking ahead to K2 , Capital Power will continue to develop and maintain strong relationships with our neighbours throughout our Project area. We will be undertaking extensive discussions with these and other stakeholders beginning with the detailed design work for the Project. Our goal is to develop a Project that, to the greatest extent possible, is both environmentally sound and respects the values and interests of the local community.

Renewable energy projects like K2, will help to meet Ontario’s clean energy targets, while creating jobs and stimulating further economic activity in the province
