Our continued support of the annual SalmonFest Celebrations in Campbell River, British Columbia provides free activities and rides for children while supporting the community's heritage sport of logging. The annual event brings together nearly 5,000 people for a weekend in August.
The "Logger Sports" event depicts the past and present logging practices through entertaining competitions between loggers and, for 11 consecutive years, has been the largest Logging Sports Competition in Canada. The 2017 event will celebrate SalmonFest’s 50th Anniversary and will feature a Canada verses United States logging competition.

Campbell River Hospital Foundation is dedicated to raising funds to support the Campbell River Hospital and Yucalta Lodge through equipment purchase, staff education, and capital projects that help enhance the service and treatment of patients and residents.
Capital Power supports one of the Foundation’s biggest fundraisers, a dinner and dance gala. The annual event includes musical entertainment through the ages featuring dance music and impersonations of some of the greatest stars over the last 60 years. Over 350 guests attended the 2016 event and raised over $35,000 for the Foundation
As a major sponsor of the Campbell River Rotary Club’s TV auction, we supported the organization in raising over $500,000 since 2011 to be reinvested in local community projects.
Capital Power’s support of the auction has helped the Rotary Club to raise funds for an outdoor splash park as well as the completion of the Elk Falls suspension bridge, just outside of Campbell River. The Elk Falls project also included the development of two new viewing platforms and expansion to the trail system around the Falls. The project showcases one of Campbell River’s most spectacular natural wonders by providing a clear, unobstructed view of the falls and canyon.
Capital Power has been supporting the Discovery Passage SeaLife Society since 2013 when they first opened their Aquarium in Campbell River. The Aquarium offers fun and unique hands-on educational experiences for people of all ages.
Local species are collected from the marine environment each spring and visitors get to touch and feel the marine life while learning in a unique setting. Species are then returned to the area of collection at the end of the season. In addition to the hands-on aquarium, the facility offers a year-round explorer lab open to the public and school groups.
A seastar is released back into the wild
The Campbellton Community Garden project is a partnership with the City of Campbell River, Greenways Land Trust and Campbellton Neighbourhood Association. Capital Power was proud to provide support to this new community initiative which intends to engage the local neighbourhood to plant and maintain the garden beds while creating low impact physical activity for all those who choose to get involved. The garden will produce natural and organic vegetables for consumption by the participants and local neighbourhood and will educate youth and others interested on sustainable eating habits and gardening.
2016 was the seventh year in a row that Capital Power has been a part of the Grizfest Music Festival in Tumbler Ridge. The annual summer family festival showcases a wide range of music and instruments and offers a chance to profile local artists from the community and the region.
Each year, the festival welcomes nearly 2,000 people from the Peace River region to enjoy the musical talents of local musicians and artists. Grizfest is becoming known throughout the province as a prominent music festival and is putting Tumbler Ridge on the map as a destination to visit. Funds raised at Grizfest support other local community events including the Family Pumpkin Patch as well as Winter Carnival activities.
Capital Power was pleased to support the WNMS Emperor’s Challenge in the Summer of 2016. What began as a 15-person half marathon nearly 20 years ago has turned into one of the largest mountain half marathons in Canada. The 2016 event saw over 700 finishers, an all-time high for this event.
Warburg School approached Capital Power in 2012 to ask for support in bringing back a welding program at the school that was discontinued 10 years ago. Capital Power was pleased to contribute to an even better version of this program, in which students learn about the welding trade while receiving high school credit for welding courses.
Capital Power helped with the purchase of new safety equipment in the training areas to help students to maintain a safe work environment. After a successful first year of the resurrected program at the school, Capital Power’s support continued in 2014 with an additional contribution for the purchase of additional required safety equipment.
Warburg Pioneer Ag Society hosts the annual Canada Day celebrations in Warburg, located near Capital Power’s Genesee Generating Station. Each year, Capital Power is excited to participate in the community celebration.
This community event showcases the Village of Warburg’s community spirit and highlights Warburg’s cultural heritage.
Warburg FCSS is a multi-municipal program that serves the residents of Leduc County, Calmar, Thorsby, and Warburg. Capital Power proudly supports several annual projects hosted by Warburg FCSS, including a Volunteer Appreciation Supper, Seniors Appreciation Luncheon and Recreational Summer Programs. Capital Power is also a supporter of the Leduc & District Food Bank which is accessed by the Warburg FCSS.

Located in Leduc County close to the Genesee Generating Station, The Genesee Heritage Park boasts a great day-use area including beautiful picnic spots and a fully stocked fish pond. History of the Genesee area is showcased in a beautiful gazebo built by the Genesee Heritage Committee. Capital Power has committed to providing an annual contribution to the County to help with the maintenance and enhancements to the park.
Each fall, the Warburg Playschool hosts a Halloween Family Fun Night, which offers entertainment for people of all ages while raising funds for the playschool. Capital Power supports this annual event that offers a number of activities including a family dance, costume judging and pumpkin carving.
Community Fit is committed to providing Thorsby and the surrounding communities with fitness opportunities and family-related events. Capital Power has supported a number of different events hosted by Community Fit, including their Women’s Health & Fitness Day held since 2013 and their Arrival and Dreams Retromania fundraiser.
Community Fit partnered with Thorsby Minor Hockey Association for this fundraiser where the funds raised went into the local community’s arena and fitness complex renovations. Capital Power is a proud supporter of both Community Fit Ltd and Thorsby Minor Hockey Association.

As a sponsor of the Elks’ Bullarama in Halkirk, Alberta since 2011, we help bring rodeo programs and family activities to the community. Nearly 1,000 guests take in the fun event each year.

The annual Elks fundraiser, Seafood Comedy Night, is an opportunity for the group to raise the funds necessary to support projects in their community. We are proud to have provided annual support for this fun event since 2012.

Capital Power supported renovations to the Halkirk & District Senior Centre in 2013. As a result of the renovations, the facility is able to offer a safer environment for the residents while maintaining a historic building in the community.
The Castor and District Rodeo is an annual community event held each summer, which Capital Power has been supporting since 2012. Offering entertainment for all ages, this event welcomes over 500 guests each year.

The Lucknow Kinsmen hosts a number of events throughout the year in an effort to support the community needs. Capital Power is pleased to be an annual supporter of several of these events.
The Super Pull comes to the community of Dungannon each June to feature pullings from across Canada and the United States. Capital Power has been supporting this award-winning event since 2008 (formerly as EPCOR).
Together with the K2 Wind Ontario partners, Capital Power supports Lucknow’s Music in the Field country music festival. The festival attracts nearly 8,000 people over the course of the 2-day festival. Proceeds from the non-profit event are distributed to local and regional hospitals, local school programs and many local non-profits who rely on community funding. In 2015, nearly $250,000 was raised.
Every June, the Ontario community of Goderich organizes the Goderich Children’s Festival, which offers free activities and programming for elementary school children.
In 2016, the theme was "Wild West" and included a 150th anniversary celebration of the discovery of salt mines in Goderich. Capital Power has been pleased to support the Festival since 2008 (formerly as EPCOR).
This one-day community event takes place in Goderich and features a full stage schedule of international music, food and dances showcasing different ethno-cultural traditions. Along with the stage performances the Festival includes opportunities for participants to interact and explore a variety of different cultures by trying their hand at international games, dances, making indigenous crafts and sampling culinary dishes and beverages from around the globe. Capital Power was proud to be a supporter of this event in 2015 and 2016, and which welcomed between 2,000-2,500 participants in the festivities each year.

Since the first Gala in 2012, Capital Power has been pleased to support the annual Haldimand Mayor’s Charity Gala. During this time, over $350,000 has been raised for, benefiting twenty-five local charities.

Capital Power has been the proud sponsor of the annual Dunnville Mudcat Festival since 2014, which welcomes 50,000 to 60,000 attendees each June. The themed festival brings together the surrounding community and visitors for fun activities, live music, fireworks, midway, and a parade.
Capital Power was pleased to support the 2016 Community Light Up and 72nd annual Santa Claus parade. The winter celebration sees hundreds of people in the community attending the events.
In 2014, Six Nations Economic Development hosted a Community Awareness Week in Ohsweken, this event focused on the growing need for proper and available housing in the community. Capital Power proudly supported this week-long event which also donated any proceeds to local charitable organizations.
The Roxboro Area Chamber of Commerce hosts its annual Personality Festival in Roxboro, North Carolina every summer. The two-day festival is the single-largest event in Person County and attracts nearly 15,000 visitors from local and surrounding communities. Capital Power has been sponsoring this fun-filled family event since 2012, which supports Roxboro and Person Country communities.

Since 2013, 2013, Capital Power has supported the annual Youth Fishing Derby in Roxboro. With over 50 participants each year, this event gives youth of all ages and abilities the opportunity to go fishing in Mayo Park and learn about the various species that live in Mayo Lake. Mayo Park Rangers also use the opportunity to teach attendees and their parents or guardians about aquatic ecology, and responsible outdoor recreation.
Since 2012, Capital Power has been a supporter of the Piedmont Community College Foundation.
Each year, the Foundation runs two fundraising events to support scholarships in the Piedmont Community and mini-grants that are awarded to faculty and staff for innovative programs that benefit students and the community. The College Golf Classic attracts nearly 100 participants and Pickin’ by the Lake, an annual bluegrass festival draws over 400 people.

Coordinated by the Roxboro Chamber of Commerce, the Confined Space Rescue Initiative is staffed exclusively by the Roxboro Fire Department and provides ongoing training to all Fire Department personnel on an on-going basis. The annual funding that Capital Power proudly provides to this important community program is used towards the purchase of the equipment necessary to train the individuals.
In 2016, Capital Power supported the Ready 365 Program in Brunswick County. Through this program, free smoke alarms are provided to homes in neighbourhoods that deemed “at risk” by local fire departments. These households are always low income families poor housing conditions.
Capital Power was pleased to support the 37th annual Great American Duck Race in Deming, New Mexico in 2016. The weekend-long community festival offers activities that engage the interest of all ages and features traditional live duck races on both wet and dry tracks. The event welcomes visitors and participants from many different counties in the area.
In 2016, Capital Power supported Camp Innoventure, a 6-day summer camp where 6th-9th grade students in Luna County learned about writing a business plan, marketing, and promotion/selling of a product. The participating students exceeded all expectations and the overall event was considered a huge success. The Deming Luna Camp Innoventure is now being expanded to a number of different counties in the area.
