Capital Power is committed to keeping our facilities and our communities safer by making annual contributions to Crime Stoppers or a local crime watch organization in each of the communities where we have operations.
Crime Stoppers is a civilian, non-profit, charitable organization that brings together community police services, the media and community in the fight against crime. Crime Stoppers provides citizens with a vehicle to anonymously supply the police with information about a crime or a potential crime of which they have knowledge. Cash rewards are offered to people who contact the program and their information leads to an arrest.
Our continued support of the annual SalmonFest Celebrations in Campbell River, British Columbia provides free activities and rides for children while supporting the community's heritage sport of logging. The annual event brings together nearly 5,000 people for a weekend in August.
The "Logger Sports" event depicts the past and present logging practices through entertaining competitions between loggers and, for 11 consecutive years, has been the largest Logging Sports Competition in Canada. The 2018 event will include a new “Highland Gathering” event featuring Piping and Drumming competitions as well as Highland Dancing and Highland games.

Campbell River Hospital Foundation is dedicated to raising funds to support the Campbell River Hospital and Yucalta Lodge through equipment purchase, staff education, and capital projects that help enhance the service and treatment of patients and residents.
Capital Power supports one of the Foundation’s biggest fundraisers, a dinner and dance gala. The annual event includes musical entertainment through the ages featuring dance music and impersonations of some of the greatest stars over the last 60 years. Over 375 guests attended the 2017 event and raised $35,000 for the Foundation.

As a major sponsor of the Campbell River Rotary Club’s TV auction, we supported the organization in raising over $600,000 since 2011 to be reinvested in local community projects.
Capital Power’s support of the auction has helped the Rotary Club raise funds for an outdoor splash park as well as the completion of the Elk Falls suspension bridge, just outside of Campbell River. The Elk Falls project also included the development of two new viewing platforms and expansion to the trail system around the Falls. The project showcases one of Campbell River’s most spectacular natural wonders by providing a clear, unobstructed view of the falls and canyon.

Capital Power has been supporting the Discovery Passage SeaLife Society since 2013 when they first opened their Aquarium in Campbell River. The Aquarium offers fun and unique hands-on educational experiences for people of all ages.
Local species are collected from the marine environment each spring and visitors get to touch and feel the marine life while learning in a unique setting. Species are then returned to the area of collection at the end of the season. Most recently, with Capital Power’s support, the Aquarium added a “bubble tank”, providing visitors with a unique view of underwater creatures collected from the local ocean waters. In addition to the hands-on aquarium, the facility offers a year-round explorer lab open to the public and school groups.
A seastar is released back into the wild
The Campbellton Community Garden project is a partnership with the City of Campbell River, Greenways Land Trust and Campbellton Neighbourhood Association. Capital Power was proud to provide support to this new community initiative which intends to engage the local neighbourhood to plant and maintain the garden beds while creating low impact physical activity for all those who choose to get involved. The garden will produce natural and organic vegetables for consumption by the participants and local neighbourhood and will educate youth and others interested on sustainable eating habits and gardening.
2018 is the ninth year in a row that Capital Power is a part of the Grizfest Music Festival in Tumbler Ridge. The annual summer family festival showcases a wide range of music and instruments and offers a chance to profile local artists from the community and the region.
Each year, the festival welcomes nearly 2,500 people from the Peace River region to enjoy the musical talents of local musicians and artists. Grizfest is becoming known throughout the province as a prominent music festival and is putting Tumbler Ridge on the map as a destination to visit. Funds raised at Grizfest support, other local community events including the Family Pumpkin Patch as well as Winter Carnival activities.

In 2018, Capital Power has partnered with the District of Tumbler Ridge to offer monthly free swim and skate nights at the Tumbler Ridge Aquatic Centre. Free admission days help ensure that all residents are able to enjoy these fun activities with their families.
Capital Power is pleased to support the WNMS Emperor’s Challenge again in the Summer of 2018. What began as a 15-person half marathon 20 years ago has turned into one of the largest mountain half marathons in Canada. The 2018 event expects to see over 1,100 finishers, an all-time high for this event. Proceeds raised from the event go towards hiking trail maintenance on the 30 trails that cover over 100 kilometres in the Tumbler Ridge UNESCO Global Geopark.
Warburg School approached Capital Power in 2012 to ask for support in bringing back a welding program at the school that was discontinued 10 years ago. Capital Power was pleased to contribute to an even better version of this program, in which students learn about the welding trade while receiving high school credit for welding courses. Capital Power helped with the purchase of new safety equipment in the training areas to encourage students to maintain a safe work environment. Proving to be a successful program, Capital Power’s support continued in 2014 and again in 2018 with additional contributions for the purchase of required safety equipment.
Warburg Pioneer Ag Society hosts the annual Canada Day celebrations in Warburg, located near Capital Power’s Genesee Generating Station. Each year, Capital Power is excited to participate in the community celebration.
This community event showcases the Village of Warburg’s community spirit and highlights Warburg’s cultural heritage.
Warburg FCSS is a multi-municipal program that serves the residents of Leduc County, Calmar, Thorsby, and Warburg. Capital Power proudly supports several annual projects hosted by Warburg FCSS, including a Volunteer Appreciation Supper, Seniors Appreciation Luncheon and Recreational Summer Programs. Capital Power is also a supporter of the Leduc & District Food Bank which is accessed by the Warburg FCSS.

Located in Leduc County close to the Genesee Generating Station, the Genesee Heritage Park boasts a great day-use area including beautiful picnic spots and a fully stocked fish pond. History of the Genesee area is showcased in a beautiful gazebo built by the Genesee Heritage Committee. Capital Power has committed to providing an annual contribution to the County to help with the maintenance and enhancements to the park.
Each fall, the Warburg Playschool hosts a Halloween Family Fun Night, which offers entertainment for people of all ages while raising funds for the playschool. Capital Power supports this annual event that offers a number of activities including a family dance, costume judging and pumpkin carving.
Community Fit is committed to providing Thorsby and the surrounding communities with fitness opportunities and family-related events. Capital Power has supported a number of different events hosted by Community Fit, including their Women’s Health & Fitness, Day held since 2013, and their Arrival and Dreams Retromania fundraiser. Community Fit partnered with Thorsby Minor Hockey Association for this fundraiser where the funds raised went into the local community’s arena and fitness complex renovations. In 2017, Community Fit set out to rebuild the community playground at the Thorsby Recreation Centre and Capital Power was proud to support their initiative.

As a sponsor of the Elks’ Bullarama in Halkirk, Alberta since 2011, we help bring rodeo programs and family activities to the community. Nearly 1,000 guests take in the fun event each year.

The Castor and District Rodeo is an annual community event held each summer, which Capital Power has been supporting since 2012. Offering entertainment for all ages, this event welcomes over 250 guests each year.

The Lucknow Kinsmen hosts a number of events throughout the year in an effort to support the community needs. Capital Power is pleased to be an annual supporter of several of these events.
The Super Pull comes to the community of Dungannon each June to feature pullings from across Canada and the United States. Capital Power has been supporting this award-winning event since 2008 (formerly as EPCOR).
Every June, the Ontario community of Goderich organizes the Goderich Children’s Festival, which offers free activities and programming for elementary school children. The Festival welcomes over 1,000 people each year. In 2018, the theme was "Jurassic Jungle" which provided information and education about dinosaurs and jungle animals. The theme was also incorporated into the entertainment with live reptiles and science shows. Capital Power has been pleased to support the Festival since 2008 (formerly as EPCOR).
This one-day community event takes place in Goderich and features a full stage schedule of international music, food and dances showcasing different ethno-cultural traditions. The Festival continues to grow and is now promoted as one of the top 10 events in the County. Nearly 2,500 people attended the Festival in 2018. The Festival kicks off by honouring Canada's First Nations with a smudging ceremony and a performance of traditional dance and drumming. Musicians, dancers and performers representing the countries and cultures from around the world, round out the eight-hour stage show. Along with the stage performances, the Festival includes opportunities for participants to interact and explore a variety of different cultures by trying their hand at international games, dances, making indigenous crafts and sampling culinary dishes and beverages from around the globe.
Capital Power has been a proud supporter of this event since 2015, welcoming between 2,000-3,000 participants in the festivities each year.

Since the first Gala in 2012, Capital Power has been pleased to support the annual Haldimand Mayor’s Charity Gala. During this time, nearly $725,000 has been raised benefiting over thirty local charities.

Capital Power has been the proud sponsor of the annual Dunnville Mudcat Festival since 2014, which welcomes 50,000 to 60,000 attendees each June. The themed festival brings together the surrounding community and visitors for fun activities, live music, fireworks, midway, and a parade.
In 2017, Capital Power was proud to support this two-day family festival that recognizes the rejuvenated community of Jarvis. In addition to celebrating Canada’s 150th Anniversary, the event included family activities, music, historical displays, a parade, and fireworks.

In 2014, Six Nations Economic Development hosted a Community Awareness Week in Ohsweken, this event focused on the growing need for proper and available housing in the community. Capital Power proudly supported this week-long event which also donated any proceeds to local charitable organizations.
The Roxboro Area Chamber of Commerce hosts its annual Personality Festival in Roxboro, North Carolina every summer. The two-day Festival is the single-largest event in Person County and attracts nearly 15,000 visitors from local and surrounding communities. Capital Power has been sponsoring this fun-filled family event since 2012, which supports Roxboro and Person County communities.

Since 2013,Capital Power has supported the annual Youth Fishing Derby in Roxboro. Now, with over 70 participants each year, this event gives youth of all ages and abilities the opportunity to go fishing in Mayo Park and learn about the various species that live in Mayo Lake. Mayo Park Rangers also use the opportunity to teach attendees and their parents or guardians about aquatic ecology, and responsible outdoor recreation.
Since 2012, Capital Power has been a supporter of the Piedmont Community College Foundation’s Pickin’ by the Lake event. Proceeds from the event help to fund scholarships for students as well as support for college program areas. The Partnership has funded over $15,000 in scholarships the past four years because of the success of Pickin' by the Lake. The event welcomes over 500 people each year

In 2018, Capital Power was proud to support Southport’s Fourth of July Festival for the first time, welcoming visitors from all over the state. This multi-day community event is recognized as a unifying community endeavor.

Coordinated by the Roxboro Chamber of Commerce, the Confined Space Rescue Initiative is staffed exclusively by the Roxboro Fire Department and provides ongoing training to all Fire Department personnel on an on-going basis. The annual funding that Capital Power proudly provides to this important community program is used towards the purchase of the equipment necessary to train the individuals.
Since 2016, Capital Power supported the Ready 365 Program in Brunswick County. Through this program, free smoke alarms are provided to homes in neighbourhoods deemed “at risk” by local fire departments. These households are always low-income families in poor housing conditions.
Capital Power has been pleased to support the Great American Duck Race in Deming, New Mexico since 2016. The weekend-long community festival offers activities that engage the interest of all ages and features traditional live duck races on both wet and dry tracks. The event welcomes over 10,000 visitors and participants from different counties and many states in the area.
Since 2016, Capital Power has been a proud supporter of Camp Innoventure, a 6-day summer camp where 6th-9th grade students in Luna County learn about the marketing and promotion required in selling a product, as well as how to develop a business plan. Participating students have consistently
exceeded all expectations and the event continues to be a huge success.
