Island Generation is a natural-gas-fired combined-cycle power generation facility. It utilizes an Alstom GT24B gas turbine and an Alstom steam turbine.
Fuel for the 275-megawatt (MW) facility is supplied by B.C. Hydro.
Island Generation is fully contracted under a long-term tolling agreement with B.C. Hydro until April 2022.
Island Generation was the first addition to Capital Power’s fleet via acquisition since its Initial Public Offering (IPO) in July 2009.
Located on the eastern side of Vancouver Island in Campbell River, B.C., Island Generation is the single-largest power generation facility on Vancouver Island. It represents about one-third of the generation capacity on the island.
