Contact CATG

Capital Power’s relationship with its neighbours is an important focus of its Genesee operations. To help, we expanded our outreach efforts to include the Capital Power Community Advisory Task Group (CATG).

The group helps the company better understand the interests and priorities of our neighbours in the Genesee area. The CATG was formed in 2007 to represent residents living within a 25 kilometre radius of the Genesee Generating Station.

CATG Newsletter
The last edition of the CATG Newsletter was published for the October 2011 meeting.

Starting in 2012, an update from each of the three yearly CATG meetings will be provided in the Genesee Connection Newsletter. Meeting minutes will be available on this page.

To receive by mail a paper copy of the meeting minutes or to request an older Meeting Summary (March 2007 to May 2009) please contact Lee Simants at 780-392-5228 or lsimants@capitalpower.com.

Brenda Walton of Kairos Creative Solutions is the facilitator for the CATG. She has brought a new energy to the group by drawing on her 15 years of industry experience and her strong rural upbringing.

Overview of a Community Advisory Task Group

The purpose of a CATG is to bring together small groups of people, representing a variety of viewpoints within a community, typically to work on a specific task. Since membership in a CATG is diverse, the process enables more community members to participate in the consultation experience. In general, CATG participants are asked to provide advice and suggestions on a variety of topics related to the task.

The Genesee CATG was established to provide Capital Power with advice on future operations at Genesee and to provide input on the following topics, which were identified as important during outreach and dialogue activities:

  • Improving Capital Power Genesee Operations' and Sherritt Coal's dialogue, outreach, community involvement and responsiveness on a range of operational and community initiatives.
  • Discussing challenges, progress and how to improve communications on key environmental, health and safety topics.

With the change from EPCOR and working with a new facilitator, the CATG Terms of Reference have been reviewed and updated by the CATG members. Click here to view the CATG Terms of Reference.

Selection of CATG Members
CATG members are selected by  Kairos Creative Solutions, an independent company now working with Capital Power. The process is aimed at selecting applicants according to community, distance from the Genesee Station, age categories, gender, background and interests. The following people currently comprise the CATG:

Manfred Kanehl
