Capital Power was event sponsor for the 2012 IIHF World Junior Hockey Championship, which took place in Edmonton and Calgary, Alberta from December 26, 2011 to January 5, 2012.
Both cities set a new attendance record for the championship, attracting over 571,000 fans between the Scotiabank Saddledome and Rexall Place over the 11-day tournament. The record breaking attendance brought significant economic impact to both host cities.
Using figures from Hockey Canada, Edmonton Economic Development Corporation estimated the event brought a minimum of $30 million to Edmonton, while Calgary Tourism estimates the event generated nearly $80 million in profit for their city.
Capital Power, together with two local community-based groups, participated in an in-game fundraiser to help local families register for minor hockey.

The countdown is on to the World Junior Hockey Championship matchup between USA and Finland!
