2010 Grey Cup Festival - Capital Powered Zipline

Grey Cup 2010 Festival logoCapital Power was proud to be a platinum sponsor of the 2010 Grey Cup Festival which took place in our hometown of Edmonton, Alberta.

From November 24 to 28, Sir Winston Churchill Square in the city’s downtown was transformed into Huddle Town, which featured the Capital Power Zipline.  During the four-day festival, more than 2,200 people soared up to 50 km/h over Huddle Town on the 520-foot long, 80-foot high thrill ride.

Capital Power ziplineBuilt on the relationship forged with the Edmonton Garrison Military Family Resource Centre (MFRC) at the Honda Edmonton Indy earlier in the year, Capital Power once again partnered with the agency.  The MFRC provides important programs and services that enhance the strength and resilience of military families to meet the unique challenges of military life.

While the zipline was free to the public, riders were encouraged to make a donation to the MFRC in exchange for an action photo of their ride.

Capital Power zipline riderZipline riders rose to the challenge, and more than $13,000 was donated by the public, including $1,700 from a group of Edmonton firefighters.  Capital Power’s additional contribution of $13,000 brought the total funds raised to $26,400.

Members of the Canadian Forces assisted zipline operator Ziptrek with the safe and fun operation of the attraction.

Capital Power employees also volunteered at the Capital Power Zipline and were able to contribute their volunteer hours to an EmPowering Communities Volunteer Grant.
