Capital Power was recently recognized at the 13th annual Edmonton & Area National Philanthropy Day (NPD) luncheon on November 17, 2011.
The University of Alberta nominated Capital Power for a National Philanthropy Award in the arts and culture sector category for its founding sponsorship of the University of Alberta Festival of Ideas.
“We are proud to be the founding sponsor of Festival of Ideas, in partnership with the University of Alberta and the City of Edmonton,” said Martin Kennedy, Vice-President, External & Investor Relations. “The Festival of Ideas enriches and enhances quality of life in Edmonton by bringing original programming and respected intellectual and artistic personalities right to our community.”
Capital Power was also nominated for an NPD award in 2010 by the Art Gallery of Alberta (AGA) for its unique Capital Powered Art Program.
The National Philanthropy Awards are presented annually by the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) Foundation for Philanthropy. The awards celebrate the philanthropic achievements of individuals and organizations in the community.
Since the first Festival of Ideas in 2008, thousands of people have visited Edmonton to enjoy and be captivated by thought-provoking readings, discussions, debates, films and performances. With the support of Capital Power, the U of A looks forward to future festivals in 2012 and 2014.
Although the bi-annual festival will not return to Edmonton until next year, Michael Ondaatje, author of the English Patient will be giving a reading and engage in conversation with an audience of more than 800 as part of the Festival of Ideas this year.
