Capital Power Integrated Gasification Combined Cycle (IGCC) Report
2011-09-16
Capital Power (through the Canadian Clean Power Coalition) partnered with the federal and provincial governments to develop a detailed plant design for an Integrated Gasification Combined Cycle (IGCC) plant that includes carbon capture and storage. If commercialized, this technology at this facility would secure a long-term source of near-zero-emission baseload power for many years to come.

The work done on this project is extremely valuable as industry and government continue exploring technology options together and seek to make intelligent, well-informed decisions as we move forward on the path to a smaller carbon footprint.

Although the technology is solid and the facility could operate at the availability and efficiency levels we predicted in our study, the business case is not there for an independent power producer in Alberta to go it alone at this time.
