Capital Power Corporation has been named one of Canada’s “Top 50 Corporate Citizens” by Corporate Knights—a national publication that bills itself as “The magazine for clean capitalism.”
Capital Power received the #38 ranking on the list of 50 companies and was one of only two power producers to make the list (the other being BC Hydro).
The award provides an external validation of Capital Power’s values.
“The people of Capital Power are deeply committed to achieving the company’s vision of becoming one of the most respected, reliable, and competitive power producers in North America,” said Brian Vaasjo, Capital Power President and CEO. “Acting responsibly and respectfully in every aspect of our operations is vital to the realization of goals.”
This is the tenth edition of the Top 50 list by Corporate Knights. The ongoing measurement and reporting is characterized on their website as “The nature of the quest has morphed along a continuum that started with corporate social responsibility, evolving to responsible business, and then to the cusp of clean capitalism—a daunting but more exciting age of opportunity that will reward companies that pursue profit concurrently with social and ecological prosperity.”
The report measures corporations on their publicly-available information in the categories of Environment, Social, Governance and Transparency.
The Top 50 ranking comes on the heels of Capital Power’s 2009 Corporate Responsibility Report achieving an A+ rating under Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) guidelines. Capital Power's 2010 report is due out in the fall of 2011.
