EmPowering Communities 2011 highlights
Capital Power employees who participated in the EmPowering Communities Volunteer program in 2011 deserve a big round of applause.
In 2011, Capital Power employees donated over 13,500 employee and family volunteer hours. As a result of employees' time and hard work, Capital Power in turn donated $95,750 to charities and community service organizations where we live and work.
Capital Power supports and encourages employee volunteerism through its EmPowering Communities Employee Volunteer Program. Through the program, employees and their families that annually volunteer 35 hours are eligible to receive a $500 volunteer grant for their choice of charity or community service organization.

Program in Action
Brian Medeiros, an Operator from Capital Power's Tiverton Power Plant in Tiverton, Rhode Island, was one of the new recipients of an EmPowering Communities Volunteer Grant.
Brian and his family volunteer at the TAPIN food pantry that services the elderly in his community, and the $500 grant was greatly appreciated by TAPIN.
Katherine Savage, Co-President of TAPIN, recently sent a hand-written note in appreciation of the donation. According to Katherine, “the donation will be a great help to support TAPIN’s food pantry, which has been responding to the increased need in our East Bay communities.”
Brian is passionate about making a difference in his community and is proud to represent Capital Power while doing so. He says, “I chose to volunteer to not only help others, but to be a representative of Capital Power in the community. The [experience] has strengthened my commitment to the company, and is helping me to explore other opportunities that will allow me to expand my career, and personal growth as an individual.”
Congratulations to Brian and all of our other employee volunteers!
