The Capital Power Zipline at the 2010 Grey Cup Festival thrilled close to 2,000 riders and raised more than $26,000 for the Edmonton Garrison Military Family Resource Centre (MFRC).
“We expected the zipline to be popular, and that led to the idea of leveraging our sponsorship in a way that helps the families of our brave and dedicated military personnel,” says Brian Vaasjo, President and CEO of Capital Power.
The Capital Powered Zipline experience was free to the public, and riders were encouraged to make a donation to the Edmonton Garrison MFRC, which provides programs and services that enhance the strength and resilience of military families to meet the unique challenges of military life.
"I can’t tell you what it means to the Military Family Resource Center, and the military families, to know there’s that kind of support out there for them,” said Roza Parlin, Executive Director of the Edmonton Garrison MFRC. “We can’t thank Capital Power, its employees who volunteered their time, and Edmontonians who stood behind us, enough for assisting us in the Grey Cup Festival. What a great event it was."
Zipline riders rose to the challenge, and more than $13,000 was donated by the public, including $1,700 from a group of Edmonton firefighters.
Capital Power’s additional contribution of $13,000 brought the total funds raised to $26,400.
