  Brian Vaasjo 
Brian Vaasjo, President and Chief Executive Officer
Brian Vaasjo was appointed Chief Operating Officer of EPCOR in 2008 and was chiefly responsible for regional power generation and water operations. A primary responsibility was advancing the company’s competitive power and water businesses across North America including the clean coal initiatives. Mr. Vaasjo has also been President of EPLP (now CPILP) since its acquisition in 2005.

Mr. Vaasjo joined EPCOR in 1998 as Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer. He led EPCOR’s initial public offering of debentures and preferred shares. At EPCOR, Mr. Vaasjo was responsible for EPCOR’s development and acquisition activity, including the Genesee 3 project and the UE Waterheater Income Fund spin-off prior to taking on the position of President and Chief Executive Officer of Capital Power.

Mr. Vaasjo previously spent 19 years with the Enbridge Group of Companies, where he played substantial roles in the Consumers Gas acquisition, development of the Alliance and Vector Natural Gas Pipelines and the initial public offering of the Lakehead Pipeline Partners LP among other initiatives.

Mr. Vaasjo holds an MBA from the University of Alberta where he also received his undergraduate degree. He attended the University of Western Ontario Executive Program and is a Fellow of the Society of Management Accountants. Mr. Vaasjo is a past Chairman of the Board of the United Way, Alberta Capital Region, a member of the Financial Executives Institute of Canada and a board member for the Alberta Shock Trauma Air Rescue Society.

  Jim Oosterbaan 

James Oosterbaan, Senior Vice President, Operations and Commodity Portfolio Management

Jim Oosterbaan leads Capital Power’s operations and commodity portfolio management. Prior to being appointed Senior Vice President, Operations and Commodity Portfolio Management in January 2011, Mr. Oosterbaan was Senior Vice President Commercial Services. In this role, and at EPCOR, Mr. Oosterbaan guided and further developed the competitive power and commodity trading businesses through the deregulation of the Alberta electricity markets.

Prior to joining EPCOR and Capital Power, Mr. Oosterbaan was a consultant in the energy and information technology sectors and was employed with the Westcoast Energy Group of Companies. While at Westcoast, his management responsibilities included marketing, business development, forecasting, natural gas supply portfolio management, and regulatory affairs.

Mr. Oosterbaan holds an MBA from the Ivey School of Business and a BBA (Honours) from Wilfred Laurier University. He is also a graduate of Stanford University’s Executive Management Program.

  Kate Chisholm 
Kathryn Chisholm, Q.C, Senior Vice President, Legal, Regulatory and Government Affairs
Mrs. Chisholm has overall responsibility for the management of Capital Power’s legal and regulatory affairs. Mrs. Chisholm served as EPCOR’s Senior Vice President, General Counsel and Corporate Secretary, directing all legal, regulatory and environmental affairs for EPCOR, EPLP (now CPILP), and their subsidiaries.

Mrs. Chisholm obtained her BA from Mount Allison University, her LLB from the University of Alberta, and her MBA from Queen’s University. She was called to the Alberta Bar in 1989 and has practiced law within the energy industry since that time. She has appeared before the Alberta Energy and Utilities Board, the British Columbia Utilities Commission, the Ontario Energy Board, the National Energy Board and the (U.S.) Federal Energy Regulatory Commission.

Mrs. Chisholm has provided counsel and expert witness testimony in numerous electric utility hearings, including those arising from the restructuring of the Alberta electricity industry. In 2008, Mrs. Chisholm was awarded the prestigious Robert V.A. Jones Award for excellence in corporate counsel service.

  Darcy Trufyn 

Darcy Trufyn, Senior Vice President, Construction and Engineering
Mr. Trufyn joined Capital Power in 2009.  He is responsible for leading Capital Power’s engineering and construction group in support of ongoing operations and new project developments.

Mr. Trufyn has extensive experience in the engineering and construction fields, including senior roles in a number of large projects in Alberta and the Maritimes.  Prior to coming to Capital Power, he was the Senior Vice President Construction with WorleyParsons in Calgary where he was responsible for all Canadian construction activities and Director responsible for Global construction. Previously, he was the President of the construction firm Lockerbie & Hole, based in Edmonton.

Mr. Trufyn, PEng, is from Edmonton and is a graduate of the University of Alberta Faculty of Engineering.

 

   
Stuart Lee, Senior Vice President, Finance and Chief Financial Officer
Mr. Lee joined EPCOR in 2003 as Vice President and Corporate Controller. He has been Chief Financial Officer of CPILP since Capital Power acquired its interest in CPILP in 2005 and has led equity and debt offerings to finance CPILP acquisitions.

Mr. Lee is a chartered accountant who articled with a large international accounting firm. Prior to joining EPCOR, Mr. Lee was Vice-President and Controller of Celanese Canada Inc., a large petrochemical manufacturer, for five years, where he was responsible for Canadian reporting, treasury, tax, IT and supply chain functions. Mr. Lee has more than 23 years of financial and reporting experience.

  Bryan DeNeve 

Bryan DeNeve, Senior Vice President, Commercial Services
Bryan DeNeve lead’s Capital Power’s business development, commercial management of existing assets, external relations, investor relations and communications.

Prior to being appointed Senior Vice President, Commercial Services in January 2011, Mr. DeNeve was Vice President, Business Development, where he led development of the Clover Bar Energy Centre, development of several wind projects in Canada, and the acquisition of the Island Generation facility in British Columbia.  From 2002 to 2005, Mr. DeNeve was Vice President, Regulatory Affairs for EPCOR, where he was responsible for the development and execution of regulatory strategies and applications. 

Prior to joining EPCOR in 1996, Mr. DeNeve was with the Alberta Department of Energy, where he participated in the development and implementation of the deregulated electricity market in Alberta.

Mr. DeNeve holds an MBA from the University of Alberta, where he also received his undergraduate degree.  He is a graduate of Harvard Business School’s Advanced Management Program.

 

  Peter Arnold 

Peter Arnold, Senior Vice President, Human Resources and Health, Safety and Environment
Peter Arnold has overall accountability for leadership of Capital Power’s Human Resources and Health, Safety and Environment functions.  These groups are focused on delivering North American-wide initiatives that support the achievement of Capital Power’s strategic plan.

Mr. Arnold joined EPCOR in 2004 and served as its Vice President, Human Resources and Health & Safety, from September 2005.  He has extensive domestic, U.S. and international HR experience and has held several senior HR positions with leading energy organizations, including Duke Energy and Nexen.  Mr. Arnold has led corporate compensation, organizational effectiveness, staffing, labour relations, corporate services and safety functions.  He also has extensive acquisition and divestiture experience in growing organizations.

A leader in his profession, Mr. Arnold is a member of the Conference Board of Canada’s Council of HR Executives. He is also a member of the Human Resources Institute of Alberta, and holds a Certified Human Resources Professional designation (CHRP).

Mr. Arnold is a graduate of Trent University and the University of Toronto.

 

  Allan Danroth

Allan Danroth, Vice President, Planning, Business Transformation and Information Services 
Allan Danroth leads Capital Power’s Planning, Information Services and Supply Chain groups. He is responsible for strategic planning, corporate forecasting and valuations, business transformation, supply chain management, and information services.

Prior to his appointment as Vice President, Planning, Business Transformation and Information Services in January 2011, Mr. Danroth was Vice President of Genesee Operations. He also held this position with EPCOR, upon joining the company in 2008.

Mr. Danroth has extensive operational and leadership experience in the pulp and paper industry, including the AV Group, Canfor, and Weyerhaeuser.  A graduate of Athabasca University’s MBA program, and the British Columbia Institute of Technology Management program, Mr. Danroth also holds a First Class Power Engineering designation.
